Darkside Blog 00001

Welcome to the first Darkside blog from Andy Baker, lead guitarist, vocalist and artistic director of Darkside, the Pink Floyd Show.

After months of planning we finally got to do our show at Aberystwyth Arts Centre with the fabulous Durga McBroom. What a show, though I can’t help thinking it would have been even better with an extra day of rehearsing with Durga and would have required less Imodium! We were given the privilege of Durga performing the lead vocal roles in What Do You Want from Me and On the Turning Away which were both unique and very special. For those of you that like detail, I have included the set list further on in the blog. Cariss Auburn and Ana Lemos completed a tremendous backing vocal team for the evening and complemented Durga beautifully. It made the hairs on my arms stand on end at times.

We pride ourselves on our passion for the music and this was confirmed kindly by Durga, “I had a WONDERFUL time!! I wasn’t just treated with respect, I was treated like family. And you all clearly love this music. Plus, the production was excellent. Well done! I hope you have me back soon”. We were also fortunate enough to have the whole show and backstage captured by top lensman Brett Prestidge. Lots of great shots to follow.

All of this followed a great weekend at the famous Rockfield Studios where we recorded our take on a little-known Floyd track called Seabirds, as well as Welcome to the Machine and Young Lust.

Great times for the band and most importantly, our audiences. It looks like being a great year, especially as we will be working with the National Space Centre again to put on a live “50 years of Apollo moon landings” show in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium following our highly successful collaboration celebrating Apollo 8 back in January. Tickets for this go very quickly so book now to avoid disappointment.
