Darkside Blog 00004
Updated: Jun 19, 2019
Hi all, it’s blog time again. As promised, this week will focus on our powerhouse drummer, Steve Graystone but first some comments about the next couple of weeks. We are really pleased to be back for two nights at the fabulous Galeri Theatre in Caernarfon at the beginning of July.
These two-night shows are a real treat for us as we can play a much bigger range of the back-catalogue, which is always fun. This is quickly followed by two nights performing in the Sir Patrick Moore planetarium where we have worked with the National Space Centre to produce a celebration of 50 years since Apollo 11 landed men on the moon.
It is a stunning visual spectacle and we will perform the whole of Dark Side Of The Moon live, including other instrumental passages to accompany the 360º projections. We did this in January to celebrate Apollo 8 and it was a spectacular success.
So back to Steve. Steve is a founder member of the band and has been driving Darkside from behind the kit for over fourteen years now. He earned his title of ‘Thundersticks’ in various bands in and around the Midlands music scene for over thirty years, including working with Reuben Archer of Stampede and Lautrec fame.
He more than adequately fills the Mason seat and fits fantastically with the band’s ethos of ‘It ain’t karaoke Floyd!’. Anyone who saw Floyd in the early days and particularly in the 70’s will know that although often labelled ‘prog’ or ‘psychedelic’, Floyd was a full-on rock band, to the point where nobody would stand near Gilmour’s amp stacks! That said, like any class drummer he can adjust his playing to suit the music and has even been seen in possession
If you want to chat to Steve after a show he can usually be bribed with a pint of good ale, preferably Purple Moose.

And finally, to fit with Father’s Day, the picture below captured part of our projection for
Wish You Were Here and shows me singing with my dad on the screen. Yet another great shot from Brett.
