DARKSIDE - WITH FRIENDS SURROUNDED TOUR 2020

Well that gets 2020 off to a flying start; a full house at the stunning St. Peter’s church, Sudbury. As you will see in the photos, it really is a lovely and interesting venue.
Playing somewhere like this is a real treat but not without its challenges. Grade I, 14th Century buildings don’t come equipped with lighting and rigging bars, cables to stage, or indeed even a stage.
With support from the promotor’s (OEP Live!) and a local rigging company, we were able to deliver the full show, albeit a little tight on stage.
Unfortunately, my vision of playing the Comfortably Numb solo from the pulpit was usurped by the need to fly the mirror ball from there. The lack of onsite toilets also necessitated the purchase of backstage bucket – oh the indignity!

Our next shows are our annual four-night residency at the intimate Theatre on the Steps in Bridgnorth and is one we always look forward to. Having set up, it is lovely to just turn up and play without the usual five hours of setting up and sound checking and better still to walk away at the end of the show without having to take it all apart again. If you haven’t been to this theatre, treat yourself, it is a little gem, though it is tricky to access, as it is halfway down (or up) a cliff.

This year sees returns to many of our usual venues and a few new ones for us, including The Palace Theatre in Mansfield, The Spinney Theatre in Northampton and The Southport Theatre. We are also liaising with OEP Live! on a potential festival show – watch this space.
Our merchandise stall is also developing, and we will soon be offering a much wider range of Darkside products. If we are able to secure the permissions, we are also hoping to have a limited edition 7” vinyl of our recording of a ‘lost’ Floyd song available.
Work continues with our quest for quad and we are really hoping to bring this to our shows this year. If you have never heard The Dark Side of the Moon in quadrophonic, try and get a listen, it is outstanding and a real experience. Ross, our sound guy is working on this and will undoubtably use it as an excuse to get ‘more gear’. To be fair, he doesn’t normally need an excuse.
On a slightly different note, I have just been listening to Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets’ version of Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun with Roger Waters.
It is a great version. I am flattered that Gary Kemp has obviously listened to Darkside’s version and incorporated the EBow (an electromagnet gadget that simulates bowing on the guitar) into the song. You can hear our version on our website www.darksidefloydshow.com recorded in 2015.
Peace & love
