137 STEPS TO THE DARKSIDE

CARISS AUBURN PERFORMING THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY - THEATRE ON THE STEPS
PHOTO: ROSS WAREING
It is fourteen years since our first performance at this delightful little gem of a theatre. Andy Baker, guitarist with the band, knew of it from attending parties there back in the 1970’s, and had always wanted to return and perform. At the time he was blissfully unaware that the only access was via the said steps, assuming there would be some sort of service road to the rear. The band had to carry all its gear by hand down the seventy steps to the theatre, that sits at about the halfway point. It nearly killed us!
It is such a wonderful and intimate venue that we wanted to continue, but the thought of lugging ever-increasing amounts of gear down the steps was daunting. Fortunately, we were able to convince a local removals firm to do the heavy lifting and so the show could go on. From that initial show, we have continued to attract bigger and bigger audiences and consequently we now sell out four nights in a mini residency. It looks like this may well expand again next year to five evenings of sell-out Floyd.
The great thing about playing a run of shows is that we can play a wide range of the back-catalogue, changing things around on different evenings, so much so that many of our followers book for two or more nights in order to not ‘miss out’ on any of their favourites.
This year was a ball and Cariss Auburn was simply outstanding. You may want to check out her brilliant solo stuff here. While on the subject of outstanding talents that perform with Darkside, you should also check out this stunning track by another of our singers, Ana Lemos here.
One of the real delights of performing in Darkside is that we get to meet and work with such talented and genuinely lovely people.

Our next show is at the Mansfield Palace Theatre, which is our first visit to this venue and we are really looking forward to it. We will be performing our unique version of The Dark Side of the Moon, including snippets developed during our work on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing at the National Space Centre. It seems to be very well received by fans and is a joy to perform. This, together with other favourites, should make for a memorable evening; Tickets are selling well…
